Ronald Colman plays the title role in the first of several screen adaptations of Christopher Wren's tale of adventure in the foreign legion. Colman is the youngest of three brothers who takes the blame when their aunt steals jewelry from the family's estate to pay off her home. He flees the country with his brothers, played by Ralph Forbes and Neil Hamilton. The brothers all join the French Foreign Legion, where they suffer under a cruel sergeant (Noah Beery Sr). Colman considered his performance in Beau Geste the finest work of his career.
